One big title is Minecraft; if you ask anyone on campus, I’m sure they’ve heard of Minecraft. In Minecraft, you start in a randomly generated world of blocks of all different sorts. You can learn how to use the environment and animals around you to survive. You can mine minerals underground or craft tools to benefit you. This game is fun because it teaches you how to survive in a fictional environment with no limits. Minecraft is by far the best-selling video game of all time; as of August 21, 2024, Forbes reports Minecraft had up to 300,000,000 sales, a huge number.
Another big title is called Grand Theft Auto V. Grand Theft Auto V, or GTAV, is a video game released by Rockstar Entertainment. This game is set in a fictional location in Southern California and tracks three protagonists in random activities. GTAV is the fastest entertainment release to reach 1 billion dollars. Be warned that GTAV is rated 18+, so you will have to wait until then. As of August 2024, GTA has reached just under 200 billion sales, according to Forbes.
One classic game is Tetris, a game where you arrange blocks to fit with each other to fill in an area with no space. This simple concept is one of the reasons for it’s great success. Tetris stays up-to-date by releasing modern variations and different modes. The game was discontinued due to licensing issues in 2020. Tetris has made nearly 100 billion sales as of August 2024, according to Forbes.
Another classic is Wii Sports, where players can use Wii Remotes to simulate real-life sports such as baseball, bowling, and everything. This is a very unspoken about gmae but it’s very realistic and diverse. You can even play fictional tennis! As of August 2024, Forbes reports Wii Sports has made over 82 billion sales.
Lastly, PUBG Battlegrounds, with 75 billion sales, is the newest game on this list. PUBG Battlegrounds is a battle royale-style game where you parachute on an island and search for tools and weapons to engage in a large open map. The survivable area in the map gets smaller over time, which forces players to engage in tighter, more intense battles. As of August 2024, PUBG has made over 75 billion sales.
