We all have the image of Homecoming from TV shows and movies, especially since the quintessential part of the high school experience; football also plays a home game during Homecoming. All was well for the game on Friday in anticipation for our players to face up against Cibola, but we lost 7-48. However, we still have one more away game against our rival, Paradise Valley High School on Wednesday night for JV and Friday night for Varsity.
Despite the loss, the players tried to brush it off and keep their spirits high as they looked to the next game, hoping for a win. Some players decided to come forward and answered some questions to say about their thoughts on this game with Giovanni Pugliese better known around campus as Gio and J.B., our quarterback and cornerback respectively. When they were asked what they take away from this season, J.B. stated “Something I’d take from this season is to control our emotions” while Gio said, “Is to play better as a team since sometimes it doesn’t feel like we are a team.” Continuing the interview I asked how they deal with a loss, Gio stated, “We gotta take it as a learning experience and grow as a team and individual” J.B., on the other hand, said, “Think of the next game since we can’t dwell on our loss as it could cloud our focus on the next one and we just got to move on”.
Although our current standings are not the best, it is admirable to see both the football team and individual players continue to keep their heads held up high despite their losses. With our rivalry game against PV coming up, their optimism and hope burn bright for a better season and maybe, just maybe, a win under our belts and ending our season on a high note.
