Mark Twain said, “Worry is paying off a debt you don’t owe.” Why are we young people worried and confused? Don’t think that we young people have to go to a certain place or reach a certain age before we can really show off our talents and become famous. The truth is, we can never be fully prepared.
According to surveys, the proportion of contemporary young people suffering from depression has increased significantly. The incidence rate of depression has increased from 9% to 10.3%, and the incidence rate of young people aged 18-25 has increased from 6.1% to 9.4%. It’s hard to believe that one in ten people suffers from depression! Essentially, what causes this to happen?
First of all, teenagers are too busy. In school, they have to study hard to get good grades. They face every word of the subject teacher in class, every word on the test paper, and various comments between classmates. These will bring us pressure. After school, they are active on the Internet, playing games and many other interesting things, and even playing with friends for a long time. It is normal to have an appropriate extracurricular life, but the problem is how to reasonably allocate the time ratio of extracurricular life and study.
As we all know, for students, learning should be the main task, and it stands to reason that learning should occupy most of the students’ time. However, through offline surveys, some students said, “I feel that I spend most of my day on Instagram and TikTok, following everyone’s updates and seeing what interesting things have happened to everyone. Sometimes I am also one of the posters, which makes me feel relaxed.” Another student said, “I know that grades are important, and I have worked hard, but the temptation of these social software is too strong. I have to use them because this way I can have common things and topics with my friends.” Although the number of people interviewed is small, the overall result is obviously the same, that is, the inability to properly allocate their energy and time leads to anxiety and even worry.
So, how to distribute energy correctly? It is not difficult to see that although the above students tried their best to control their energy distribution, they did not succeed. I think most of the reasons are due to lack of self-control. Pythagoras once said, “Self-control is the most powerful force and wealth in the world. If a person does not know how to control himself, he will run aimlessly like a wild horse; like a garden without a gardener, it will be overgrown with weeds and in disarray.” Nowadays, many young people are anxious, irritable, and fearful. These are all manifestations of your lack of self-control. If you have enough self-control, you will not feel anxious or irritable at all. On the contrary, every day is a new beginning for you, and your life will be full of positive energy.
On the other hand, I think it is because they have no goals. Without goals, they have no direction to work towards. The market is in chaos and they are at a loss. They can only relax in entertainment. I think students should clarify what they like and find goals based on their interests or strengths. For example, they can contact the counselor from time to time and change the subjects they like or are good at, instead of wasting time and struggling on subjects they don’t like at all. Only with direction can they have motivation.
In a word, the allocation of time is very important. It will affect your learning efficiency and even your grades. We should arrange our lives well and not let life control us. We should be the masters of our lives!
