The fashion industry is changing rapidly on a day to day basis, and thrifting is taking a gigantic rise in popularity in the youth, but that comes at the cost of everyday fast-fashion companies. The jump in shopping second hand is driven by push-back to fast fashion work environment and environmental impact, including sweat shops and massive amounts of waste. More people are also seeking uniqueness within their wardrobes , which fast-fashion is known not to provide since their main target is the general public, which causes them to be replicated throughout society.
Also, affordability is very appealing to the youth, since thrifting is seen to be a cheaper and a lot of times better option. Even though brands such as Shein have still seen revenue growth, brands are slowly realizing the fashion market is changing more rapidly into sustainability, so brands have started trying to find more ethical and Eco-friendly ways to produce and sell their products. Overall fast fashion is out and thrifting is in until fast fashion is more sustainable.
