As students return to the halls of North Canyon and many new changes are to be expected. However, this year for the Canyon we got a big new change; a new principal! Mr. Ontiveros is our brand new principal who has been in the Paradise Valley Unified School District for 22 years. Originally, having been principal for Greenway Middle School for 5 years, however, this isn’t Mr. O’s first rodeo in the canyon as he had been assistant principal for North Canyon for 4 years leaving just before the arrival of the Class of 2026.
In his previous work, Mr. Ontiveros worked with the Greenway Middle community to create a proud and caring community that supports and fosters learning! As for Mr. Ontiveros’s plans for North Canyon, he stated, “I plan to learn the systems of the school and eventually create a fun and engaging learning environment.” Additionally, Mr. O wants to let the students and staff know that according to his words that “I am proud to be here at North Canyon!” and hopefully we’re also happy to have him here at North Canyon High School as well.
Additionally, Mr. Ontiveros is big on building relationships with students as seen in how he greets every student during the morning and striking up a conversation with students in the halls or the cafeteria. In addition, he’s also a big fan of school spirit as shown in his participation in Spirit Week and popping out to the football game on Thursday.
