Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, North Canyon High School had changed the Lunch schedule to just one period, instead of having two different ones. Though, some people claim that the one lunch period is better, others are saying that they prefer the two different ones.
A student at North Canyon High School, another fellow journalist named Niome, was asked how she felt about the new lunch period. She stated, “I feel that it’s not a very smart idea, it seems like it will be crowded and with more opportunities for fights”. Any person could easily see that it is indeed crowded in the lunch room. It leads to getting possibly pushed around and squished in between people. When students are close together, there’s a higher chance that students are going to start fights with one another. It’s hard for students with tension to escape each other.
Mrs. Ruiz, a geometry teacher at North Canyon was asked about her opinion on the new lunch period as well. She stated, “I like being able to see my coworkers so I like it. Though, I pity the students who don’t have enough time to eat.” Many students don’t have time to eat during lunch because of the numerous, excessive amount of the students inside the cafeteria at one time. Students go all of class waiting for lunch, then they don’t have time to eat during lunch and go back to class hungry. Which with inference, could possibly lead to poorer school performance.
The new lunch schedule has been a good change for teachers and students when it comes to seeing friends. But it’s not a good change when it comes to actually eating lunch.
