Throughout the years hallway traffic has always been a big issue for high school students. Freshman walking slow, seniors bumping into those slow walking freshmen and Juniors and Sophomores are in between. Hallway traffic causes many students to be late and that results in detention and many more consequences. Districts give students six minute passing periods so they can go to and from class but sometimes those six minutes may not be enough. With some students stopping in the middle of the hallways to greet their peers which causes the hallways to get stopped up.
Lupe Molina at North Canyon High school states she makes it to class sometimes because “Sometimes, I walk kinda slow”. This is proof that some freshman just may not be used to the speed of things in high school. A junior, Mackenzie Fountain, also attends north canyon High school and she states ” Freshman’s walk relatively fast it’s usually Juniors and Seniors who have been here longer that feel superior and walk slow”. Mackenzie seems to think that it’s Juniors and Seniors who are the slow walkers and not freshmen.
But teachers will argue six minutes is plenty of time to get to and from your classes. Talking to your peers isn’t needed and students can socialize during electives, lunch or before school starts in the mornings. I believe that students have enough time to get to and from classes. NCHS is a very large school with over 200 rooms but if students really want to get to class they can make it. Hallway traffic will only increase there really is no solutions but students can still try their best to be responsible adults and get to class.
