TEMU and SHEIN are Chinese e-commerce platforms known for selling goods for small prices. SHEIN was launched in 2008 and originated in China. TEMU was launched in 2022 by the parent company of the Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo. Although similar, TEMU focuses more on home devices and electronic goods while SHEIN focuses on fashion, accessories and beauty items. Over the years both platforms have grown more and more popular but, which one is the best?
SHEIN grew to become the largest fashion retailer as In 2o22 due to younger Millennial and older Generation Z consumers. But in recent years, SHEIN has been in the middle of trade disputes, lawsuits involving competitors and product safety concerns. They also had accusations of tax evasions and being involved in harbor law and violating human rights. With these issues you could assume that purchasing items from SHEIN isn’t the best but Freshman Saniya Hayes said, “Buying SHEIN has been going well, the quality is better than TEMU.” This quote explains that SHEIN can be a reliable place to purchase apparel.
Surprisingly although TEMU and SHEIN are alike TEMU has had less accusations than SHEIN. In February of 2024 TEMU offered U.S 15 million giveaways in multiple Super Bowl ads and as a result the company’s popularity rose. 100 million active users in the U.S, and 130 million globally and 420 million monthly website visits. Freshman Cassy Shirit said, “I like SHEIN more, but I like TEMU for accessories. They have better hair products that are cheaper and cuter!”. With this being said SHEIN is favorited over TEMU.
Both platforms are well liked by people. While some think SHEIN has better quality others think TEMU has cheaper accessories. These platforms have had accusations of scamming and purchases not being delivered. To be safe you should use separate cards to purchase items. In my opinion both platforms aren’t safe to use after so much accusations its suspicious to use these apps. In my personal experience both SHEIN and TEMU have scammed and taken my money. People should stick to apps like Amazon or in person shopping.
