William Hennessy
Mr. Hennessy and his crew walking to the site
September was a normal month until 2001 when a tragedy struck 2 planes that crashed into the twin towers a third was found trying to aim for the Pentagon but missed. However this was monumental due to the twin towers or World Trade Center being a main workplace for many and also in the midst of the city in New York, Manhattan at that point. Though at some point in time they were the largest building that existed representing possibly one of the biggest monumental times in America with little to no war and also showing freedom and life growing.
I have interviewed one of the firefighters from the scene Mr. Hennessy here’s what he had to say. “It was scary and nerve-racking just seeing the towers fall really put fear into me wondering who might’ve lost their life there”. I asked him if there was anything that had impacted him greatly, Mr. H said “losing co-workers made it difficult because we all knew each other, buddies not just from work but like friends”. Then he continued “I had a friend who just had a daughter (his goddaughter) and he was asking his boss for two days off the day before the incident he did work in the World Trade Center so I was glad to know he was okay”. I then asked is there anything else in particular that you want to add and he said quoting Winston Churchill “This is one of my favorite quotes, If you’re going through hell just keep going”.
The loss of one of America’s monuments was detrimental to the morality of almost everyone who was alive at the time and for those who would be to come. Although America has recovered from this it’s still good to remember who we lost what we fought for and why we fought so hard to get it. Mr. Hennessy says “aside from all the tough and hard times the rescue and recovery was worth it”.
