As our first academic quarter draws closer to an end, it becomes a moment of reflection towards the progress we as students have made. The end of the quarter signifies the start of new beginnings, the development of study habits and the positive momentum which will carry us throughout the year.
With the end of the first quarter comes the second. This upcoming quarter students should be willing to reflect on their school year so far so that they could better enhance both their lifestyle and their grades. Although many have a decent amount of years to fix the errors they’ve made, seniors on the other hand face a far more serious challenge. This upcoming quarter, seniors should be willing to sacrifice time both in and out of school to focus on maintaining their grades or recovering the credits needed to graduate. For information on recovering credits, don’t be afraid to contact your counselor regarding credit recovery or summer school options.
According to teachers, time management is very important because very often do they “see students scrambling at the end of a unit or the end of a quarter to catch up on missing or incomplete assignments. More often than not time has been given in class to complete the work, but students don’t always use that time effectively. ” School should be a place of learning and with the very little time we have in school, it should be used effectively to finish homework or other things needed. A change in mindset is also very important. Many students treat homework as “‘Check in the box’ tasks, instead of opportunities to learn” which could be thought of as “autopilot thinking.” This in return, creates a gap in what you cover and what you know. Last; but not least, Seniors who don’t lock-in are the ones who feel more stressed out, panicked, and exhausted. They’ve even gone so far in stating that, “it’s exhausting to be one step behind all of the time. And when one step is missed, many find themselves falling further and further behind. The risk of not graduating is very real, but also it takes away from being able to enjoy the fun things that go along with Senior year, (i.e. Homecoming, Prom, Senior Sunrise/Sunset, graduation prep, hanging out with friends). ”
Don’t be left out during graduations due to a credit deficit. Your first three years are the only stable ground you’ll have for recovering credits, after that you’ll be caught trampling all over yourself. Use class time effectively and for your needs. Ultimately, improve your lifestyle choices since it more often than not affects your future as well.
