Many hate it and some love it. Let’s talk about it! The Arizona phone law, not just in Arizona but in Texas, California and Indiana. Is a federal law that was put in place April 14 2025 by our Governor Kate Hobbs in Phoenix. It requires not only school districts but also charter schools to imply this during the school day, and that includes all of Arizona. Although it is premiered for emergencies and medical conditions, other than that it is not premiered unless instructed by a teacher. It is known as HB2484 as a bill number. In the final ruling we had 45 Ayes, 13 Nays and 2 NV. This was one of the things completed from the 2025 Majority plan, for making education better in Arizona. According to Representative Pingerelli she stated “Teachers shouldn’t have to compete with YouTube and Instagram to be heard, HB2484 refocuses kids on learning, empowering parents, and backing up teachers.” Their goal with this is to strengthen students’ ability to focus and improve education outcomes. “Education requires attention, and attention is exactly what today’s students are being robbed of by addictive devices and endless scrolling,” Representative Pingerelli said. When asked 72% of teachers said that cell phones are a major distraction in the classroom. Are students truly a distraction in the classroom or does it help it thrive? Many students have expressed their dislike of this new policy in their school. What do you think of this new law?
