I had the opportunity to interview our cheer coach Paris Hill, a first-year coach at NCHS. May I say our NCHS cheerleaders and coach have the spirit in them!
Coach Hill is most excited to be here at NCHS and coach our cheerleaders through a happy year. It started with a dream and hope to one day become a reality. She would drive past campus, admiring it, to now being a coach here. She quoted “It’s crazy how fate landed me here coaching a sport I cherish deeply.”
Coach Hill’s plans for cheer are to develop an environment and culture based on trust, teamwork, community, and having fun. She also plans to increase school spirit and get students involved with games and events around campus. As for competition, Coach Hill plans to participate in several events around the Valley, such as AIA competitions and Pink State.
What is being brought into the field is amazing. This year not only do they have 1 tumbler on JV but 3 more on Varsity, and many who are interested in becoming tumblers. As for our stunts, they are mainly focused on looking sharp and clean, also executed safely and correctly consistently.
Coach Hill has big plans for our NCHS cheerleaders from getting them involved with community and volunteer work to contacting college cheer teams to be able to offer them scholarships. As Coach Hill said, “ This year is all about setting a strong foundation for years to come”. As for NCHS cheerleaders inside of school, coach Hill hopes they show respect, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm towards others inside and outside campus life. As quoted ”Ultimately, I want our cheerleaders to be role models who inspire the entire NCHS community.”
I can’t wait to see what else our NC cheer team has to bring.
