The TikTok ban that was supposed to happen on January 19th did happen, however not even for 24 hours. People have been trying to ban TikTok for years now but nothing ever actually happened until January 19, 2025. It was removed from the app store and people couldn´t watch it on their phones anymore. The U.S. house of representatives passed legislation March 13, 2024, requiring that the Chinese company Byte Dance to sell the social media app within 6 months or else it will be banned from all U.S. app stores and devices.
The legislative vote was 325-65 in favor of banning TikTok. Former President Joe Biden then signed the National Security Act, 2024 into law on April 24, 2024, which included the TikTok divest or ban bill. Even after all of this we still have TikTok to this day. Our current president Donald Trump signed an executive order postponing the ban for 75 days, giving everyone the chance to pursue a resolution. Alot of younger people use TikTok as a way of entertainment when they are bored or just have nothing to do. When everyone first realized that TikTok was banned some deleted the app off of their phone because they wouold constantly be clicking on the app and it wouldnt work. people couldn´t get it back on their phones until Feb 13, 2025 when it was placed back in the U.S. app stores.
