Here at North Canyon High School we have gotten so many new faces. North Canyon even got a new dance teacher ready to show us what she’s got and help us in many ways. Mrs. Nascimento Castro has been teaching dance for over 20 years. She has taught in Brazil and also at ASU, GCU, GCC, Tolleson, Imagine Desert West Middle School, Encore Dance Studio and now at North Canyon. She said, “She is planning to teach here until retirement.” She graduated from Hollins University with a MFA in dance and went to University of Arizona for her BFA after training as an elite gymnast.
She was a lead dancer for her high school and now she leads more than 100 plus students here at North Canyon. She told me, “Our students here get dancing,” meaning if the girls really love dancing; they can have successful careers in the future.
Mrs. Nascimento is married to her lovely husband and has two daughters the ages of 4 and 7. She says “Paradise Valley is my daughters’ school district and I want to build where I live.” This is a pretty smart choice. She also says, “She can’t wait to show us what her dance group has got.” We can go see them perform on December 6th at 6:00 PM.
