What is black history? and why do we celebrate it? Black history month is the month where we celebrate african american citizens independence from slavery after segregation laws where abolished, but also a chance to honor african american citizens and it has been around even before the laws where abolished!

What kind of achievements do we celebrate? during the month of february we celebrate the accomplishments of african american citizens with all kinds of accomplishments, such as ¨ Jackie robinson ¨ the first african american baseball player to play in a major league, and the infamous ¨ Martin Luther King jr ¨, who lead the civil rights movement, and advocated for people of color. And this included male and female role models who not only inspired many people of color, but helped abolish segregation laws. Some female activist such as, ¨ Rosa Parks,¨ ¨ Harriet Tubman,¨ and many more.

Whats Black History month today? Today we celebrate and honor the accomplishment of african american citizens by learning about them in schools to remind and teach future generations, As Well as the remembrance of the ones who died helping abolish slavery laws. While the laws are abolished, people still can be prejudiced, and treat people differently based on their skin, culture, and ways of living. We learn about black history every year hoping future generations will continue to treat everyone with equality.
