The term ‘ASAP’ in today’s internet culture stands for “As Soon As Possible.” Mostly the younger generation uses this term as a way to provide emphasis and pressure to get something done rapidly. But, your life is not meant to be lived at a lighting pace, your are supposed to live with ease and fluidity. As Mackenzie Fountain states, “Your cortisol rises, you’re overwhelmed, and become plagued with fatigue. Balance is key to being able to enjoy the life we live. The assignment or task will always be there tomorrow.
Productivity is a form of self care, but ignoring the other aspects in your life for added stress, neglects your inner peace.” Work should be adjusted to our own comfort, for it is ourselves who we serve. Productive means a plethora of things that the general public consider necessary in their everyday lives. “The current culture we have surrounding productivity is toxic. It completely disregards people with physical disabilities, mental or physical disability, and other factors outside of ‘the norm.’ For example, depressive episodes may lead people to barely even get out of bed or put on some socks,” Mackenzie Fountain remarks. ASAP should mean as slow as possible, as soft as possible, as soulful as possible, as sustainable as possible, as sincere as possible, as steady as possible, and as soon as (YOU POSSIBLY CAN).
Humans as a whole should be doing things in a way that ASAP applies to them. “Don’t take time off of your life for a simple task, give it yourself time, ‘ASAP,'” Mackenzie Fountain notes. We should be organizing our lives in such a matter where things are not rushed, but instead where we roll through the motions. There is value in all the types of lives we live. There are moments we should not let pass us by just because we are too “busy”. “As soon as possible” is not as productive as it may seem, the body and mind need rest. Embrace stillness, embrace pause, embrace the slowness, and remember you have time. So strive and work hard to achieve your goals, but also take a breath. Embrace life as it is, it’s beautiful.
