Friends of Black History

To many, Black History Month is a month where they can be themselves and show their pride to be black. But there is a side to black history that many don’t know about the actually history of it. Started by historian Carter G. Woodson, Black History Month originally started off as a week to honor black people and their accomplishments, but soon that week turned into a month.

This month is extremely important for members of the black community because it is a month where they can teach others about their culture. Black History Month is also a month where black creators are recognized for their efforts and all they have gone through as black creators. Black History Month is how many learn about the culture and history of black people from where they get their knowledge from.

The first and probably most important lesson of Black History Month is how to be an ally. An ally is someone who can support and love people who are different from them. But specifically to be an ally to a black person is to speak out against injustices that you see, be a helping hand for those in need, and just being a friend who will listen when you are needed. Being an ally is many things and to be a good ally means that your are loving, kind, and supportive of everyone regardless of sex, race, sexuality, and religious background. Being an ally is important and especially during Black History Month, allies are needed to show support for black people because with support, issues that black people face can finally come to light and bring justice to where its needed.
