Do pets provide comfort and happiness?
After talking to people with pets I can say clearly that pets do provide comfort and happiness. Many say “my pet makes me happy everytime i see him” others say “I can’t imagine my life without my dog”.
A survey done has stated that 86% of pet owners feel they have impacted their mental and physical health. In the US alone around 89.7 million people own pets, and around 1 billion people globally own pets. Pets have provided comfort and happiness for years.
Cats and dogs are the most common household pets. Pets have become a very important part in service and helping people with their disabilities. The most commonly used animal is dogs. They are trained in all types of stuff such as becoming guide dogs (for the blind), aid the hearing impaired, mobility dogs( they fetch and carry items), medical alert dogs (for allergy, seizures, etc), therapy pets.
Many pet owners like to treat their pets as humans, many saying they are “Babies”. Around half of the US population treat their pets as part of their family, many throwing birthday parties, treating them to “luxury” things, such as treats(duck feet, quail eggs, etc). Many spend around 1,400 yearly per pet, yet it can be higher depending on the pet. Recently stated 43% of Americans prefer to have pets over children, many being Gen Z and millennial’s.
What do you think? Do pets provide happiness and comfort or are they overrated.
