Have you noticed that everything seems to be rising these days? Gas prices have gotten up to be $6 at some gas stations.
The reason for gas prices going up drastically is due the conflict going on in the Middle East which has caused some oil supply issues. About 25% of the world’s oil supply passes by the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. With the conflict going on with Iran it has restricted oil transport through the Strait of Hormuz, which forces oil prices to rise.
This affects a lot of people in many ways, especially at NC. Lots of students drive to school and work and need to pay for gas out of pocket. Jaqcuelin Ramirez says these gas prices are “ridiculous”. She doesn’t drive to school, but she has to drive to work and fill up her tank weekly so most of her money goes towards gas. Ashley Salas tells us that gas prices going up are “terrible because it makes me broke and makes my budget tighter”. This affects a lot more people than most people think, especially teens that are always going out and need to get to their destinations.
