Stranger Things
“Stranger things” was without a doubt the biggest show to come out of the year 2016. The show took the world by storm because of the fact that you could binge watch it on netflix in one sitting. This show ran for 5 seasons, with its run ending in the new year of 2026 and implementing itself as one of the most popular shows to come out in the 21st century. The show was written by the Duffer brothers. The first season of the show was nominated for 18 emmys but did not win any of them.
Better Call Saul
“Better Call Saul” is also one of the best shows to come out in the 21st century. It was a prequel to the arguably best show of all time, Breaking Bad. The show focuses on the lawyer Saul Goodman before the events of Breaking Bad. In the year 2016, it was on season two of its six season run. The show was created by Vince Gilligan who also created Breaking Bad but the sole showrunner was Peter Gould. The show overall ended with a whopping 53 Emmy nominations. Unfortunately it did not win any of them, which is crazy not gonna lie.
The Walking Dead
“The Walking Dead” was also a huge show at the time of 2016. During 2016 it was on season seven. Season seven was a huge turning point for the show. Season six had left out on a cliff hanger when it introduced a new villain to the show. Fans were waiting for months after the cliffhanger of season six to see the outcome in season seven. After the premiere of season seven, the show had a major viewership drop that impacted the show heavily. Some reports say that the show lost audiences in the millions. After this the show never really recovered from that viewership drop. The show ended in 2022 and while there was not much hype for it in the later seasons, its run in the earlier seasons were some of the most hype in television.
Game of Thrones
“Game of Thrones” was another huge show that was airing during 2016. It was on season six of its run. At season six it had a peak viewership of 25.7 million viewers. This showed just how dominant the show was in television and why it was considered one of the best shows in television history. However it is also known for having one of the worst series finales of all time. The show had !9 million people watched it and it left many people disappointed. People said that it was rushed with its arcs and left many things unresolved. Some argue that it had the worst Television show finale of all time.
Black Mirror
“Black Mirror” was also a popular and unique show that was airing in 2016. It was on season three of its series run during 2016. The show was unique because the episodes were all completely random and had a different story, plot, and characters which meant you could watch the episodes in whatever order you wanted and you didn’t have to worry about missing something about previous episodes. Even though the show was random it did have similarities in its theme about the future and technology. It showcased the dark twisted side of technology and its impact on human nature and society.
