The 2024 Marching Band Season was one of exploration and imagination, following the introduction of a new Band Director and our show, entitled “Imagine”. Thanks to the contribution of all Band Members, we managed to achieve high placement in both AZMBA and ABODA, reaching the top 8 in both organization’s state championships.
Within the band’s mass of dedicated individuals, one has been voted by fellow band members as the most deserving of recognition for his contribution to the Marching Band season: Tre Gholston.
Tre’s Journey so Far
Tre has been a member of the Marching Band since he was a freshman. Freshman year he played the Bass drum, starting off his Marching Band career with Percussion. Sophomore year brought him into the front ensemble, where he played the timpani for Marching Band and Indoor Drumline, the 2nd semester equivalent of Marching Band. He met many friends along the way and fell in love with the Marching Band, choosing to stick with it through the years.
The 2024 Band Season
In the 2024 season, he decided to join percussion. The section is small, having only two people within, him being one of them. He originally joined to play bass drum but, after noticing our lack of a snare, decided to fill the role, becoming the snare for the Marching Band. The difficulty of this switch is best summed up by the Bass guitarist of the Band: “he switched instruments twice, for a total of 3 instruments, during the season. [It’s] not easy doing it [even] once!”
The snare is the head of the percussion line, giving the most rhythm to the band: without a strong snare, the Band can easily fall apart. Stepping into this role gave him large shoes to fill, but he filled them well. He listened to the show every day, memorizing his part and how it interacted with others to ensure he was performing at the best of his ability. His commitment to his part and to the Band as a whole shone brightly as the Band withstood 42 bands in total between the two State Championships attended, landing in the top 8 both times.
Thank You
While the Marching Band Season flourished with the help of a lot of different members working diligently, Tre was the star of the show, keeping the Band together, both emotionally and musically. As said by the head Sousaphone: “He always tries his best and is almost always cheerful, [bringing] up everyone’s attitude. If he wasn’t there, I think, we wouldn’t have gotten as much done as we have today”.
Without you Tre, we would not have made it to State. So, from the deepest part of all our hearts, you have our deepest gratitude for all you have done to better this Band, both musically and as a community.
Thank you, Tre!
