I think 2016 was a strange year for fashion. It has been a years since then but I still remember the fashion trends from that time very clearly. When I look at pictures, on Instagram or Snapchat from 2016 I notice that everyone was wearing pretty much the same things. Do you remember the choker? The choker was everywhere. You could not use Dubsmash without seeing the choker in every single video. The choker that was most popular was the black ribbon choker or the plastic ones that looked like tattoos and stretched. I stayed with one of these tops on.

Another big thing that people liked was the off-the-shoulder top. It seemed like nobody wanted sleeves that covered their shoulders anymore. The off-the-shoulder tops were really popular during the summer. They looked a little strange. The off-the-shoulder tops were actually very comfortable. You would see people wearing the, off-the-shoulder tops with shorts or ripped jeans everywhere. The oversized denim jacket was also very popular. These jackets were not fitted they looked like something you would borrow from your parents. People really liked to add their style to them with iron-on patches, pins or they would write on the back. The jacket was a thing to wear over a hoodie or a slip dress. I would take my moms jackets. Draw on the back with a sharpie I just wanted to look cool.

Shiny lip gloss was not popular anymore. By 2016 people wanted their lips to be matte, like my moms. This meant using liquid lipstick that dried completely flat with zero shine. The most popular colors were dark nudes, browns, and pink. It felt really dry on your lips, but it looked cool in pictures.Overall, 2016 fashion was fun because it was pretty simple. You didn’t need expensive clothes to look cool you just needed a choker and your popular.
